Inclement Weather
Sandbags
The city of Willamina offers sandbags for heavy rain or flooding. Free, self-serving site for the community is located at the Public Works shop off Adams St. in Willamina. The site is open during regular business hours 7:30-3. Sand, bags, and shovel are all provided. If not then please let us know. We try to be ready for these events.
When moving a sandbag use the proper lifting techniques to avoid injury. Lift with your legs and bend at the knees to protect the back.
Road Sanding
The City of Willamina tries to keep the roads you drive on safe during times of snow and ice. We do NOT offer all roads, especially Highway 18, the main road through Willamina. The County is responsible for that. Drivers may need to apply chains or other traction devices.
In an event of freezing rain, the city of Willamina usually applies sand only to hazardous locations, such as Willamina Dr., Barber, and Oaken Hills. Please consider staying home and off the streets if it gets to bad and plan ahead: drive with caution, carry traction devices, fill vehicle with fuel, park off the street, and carry provisions just in case you have to stay in your vehicle for an extended amount of time.
The City of Willamina does try to have resources open to their citizens during times like these. Keep an eye out when the time comes.
